Intellectual Property theft is a common crime in the business world. It takes many forms and dimensions and can originate from the most unlikely places. Industrial Espionage is one of the forms of IP theft.

However IP theft may be a crime of opportunity. People who have access to sensitive data or trade secrets, may be tempted to make some extra cash, for what they think is a "victimless crime".

Access to different level of data should be restricted to people who "need to know". It may sound complicated to have different levels of access in your business, but once it is established, it simply becomes second nature.
